As part of the Paris Brazilian Film Festival, the Alliance Française de Paris is celebrating the rich cultural ties between France and Brazil with two special events: a discussion on film and music, followed by a concert at the Alliance Française Theater. 

A conversation with Liliane Mutti and Philippe Powell, moderated by Alan Castelo

Born in Paris, Philippe Powell is a Franco-Brazilian pianist, composer, and music producer. The son of legendary guitarist and composer Baden Powell, this talented artist has performed with Melody Gardot, among others.

Born in Salvador, Brazil, Liliane Mutti holds a master’s degree in gender studies from Paris 8 University. A socially conscious filmmaker and screenwriter, she also founded the Ciné Nova Bossa association in Paris. 

Alan Castelo is an actor and director originally from Rio de Janeiro. Based in Paris, his work also involves translating works by French-speaking authors and promoting Brazilian writers in France.

Join us for a unique conversation between Philippe Powell and Liliane Mutti, moderated by Alan Castelo. The three artists will discuss the influences and strong cultural ties between France and Brazil, particularly in the fields of music and film.

Concert by Alaíde Costa, accompanied on piano by Philippe Powell

Alaíde Costa, the diva of bossa nova and a seminal figure in Brazilian music, celebrates her 90th birthday in Paris with a special concert at the Théâtre de l'Alliance française. She is accompanied on piano by the virtuoso Philippe Powell, son of her longtime collaborator Baden Powell, in a rare musical collaboration. 

This concert coincides with the release of the biopic *La Nuit d’Alaíde*, directed by Liliane Mutti, screened on April 14 at the L’Arlequin cinema as part of the festival.
