A Conversation with Amin Maalouf - French at the Crossroads of Languages and Cultures

Evening

The Alliance Française in Paris is pleased to welcome Amin Maalouf, writer and permanent secretary of the Académie Française, on Monday, June 22, at 6:30 p.m., for a discussion on the French language and its place in a diverse world.

At a time when languages are circulating, intersecting, and evolving, Amin Maalouf will share his thoughts on the future of the French language, his work with the Académie française, and the challenges posed today by multilingualism, cultural diversity, and language transmission.

Hosted by Xavier North, president of the Alliance Française de Paris, this event will encourage participants to view French as a living, open, and shared language, in constant dialogue with the world’s other languages and cultures.

This conversation also offers a rare opportunity to hear from and engage with one of the leading voices in contemporary Francophone literature, whose work has consistently explored issues of identity, otherness, and cultural coexistence.

Through this event, the Alliance Française de Paris continues its mission to foster cultural dialogue through a living language that is spoken, taught, and reinvented every day on every continent.

Admission is free, subject to availability.
