Literary encounter: Michèle Rakotoson

Presentations

Event open to all.

We are delighted to welcome Michèle Rakotoson. A writer, playwright and literature teacher, she has also worked as a journalist for France Culture and RFO, as head of literary events at RFI and as literary director of the Revue noire.

Her latest novel, Ambatomanga. Le silence et la douleur, was a finalist for the Prix Ivoire 2022 and winner of the Prix Orange du Livre en Afrique 2023. In it, the novelist narrates the invasion of her native island at the end of the 19th century, through the eyes of a Malagasy slave and a young French officer.

"A magnificent tribute from the grande dame of Malagasy literature to a people whose history is too little known to the rest of the world. A voice given to the little ones and the defeated, even if, as we understand from her book, the balance sheet of a war is made up only of losers." Le Monde

"An uncompromising account of the colonial system."  Jeune Afrique

A book sale and signing session will be held after the event, hosted by Bernard Magnier.

This event is organized by the Alliance Française de Paris, with the support of the Institut français and the Fondation des Alliances Françaises.
