Litterary encounter : Alain Mabanckou
EveningsBorn in 1966 in the Congo, Alain Mabanckou is the author of several novels, including "Mémoire de porc-épic" (Seuil, 2006) for which he received the Renaudot Prize. He lives in the United States, where he teaches French literature at UCLA, and in France. His work has been translated into some twenty languages. "Verre cassé" has also been adapted for the stage in several productions.
In his latest book, "Le commerce des allongés" published in 2022 by Seuil, Alain Mabanckou plunges us into the heart of his favorite city, Pointe-Noire, to show us that the dead are not dead, but simply passed into the camp of the invisible. Based on the funeral rites of the Congo-Brazzaville of his childhood, the writer has composed a fable from beyond the grave, whose hero, an extralucid dead man, dialogues with the dead and denounces the inequalities of contemporary Africa.
