Rencontre littéraire “Je viens de loin, j’écris en français” avec Ananda Devi et Gad Bensalem
Don’t miss out on this new edition of the literary encounters “Je viens de loin, j’écris en français” on Tuesday, April 27th at 6pm (UTC+2) with Mauritian author Ananda Devi and Madagascan slam artist Gad Bensalem. Join us to and be part of the discussion between Bernard Magnier, specialist on francophone literatures, and his two guests.
Born in Mauritius, ANANDA DEVI studied ethnology and is now a major figure of contemporary literature from the Indian Ocean. Mauritius is at the heart of her writings and her French incorporates the musicality of Creole and Hindi. In her work she questions the suffocating atmosphere of compartmentalised societies and advocates for the recognition of otherness in all its shapes. She received many awards for her publications, amongst which the Prix des Cinq continents and the Prix RFO in 2006 for Ève de ses décombres, and she was awarded the Prix du Rayonnement de la langue et de la littérature françaises in 2014. She was made a Knight of the Arts and Letters in 2010.
GAD BENSALEM is a poet and salm artist from Madagascar. In 2012 he joins the Compagnie Miangaly Théâtre and two later he becomes the President of Madagaslam, an association aiming to bring together all of Madagascar’s slam artists. He is also a director and producer who likes to incorporate various artistic mediums like danse, video… in his production. Convinced that the arts are of public interest, he enjoys putting the emphasis on the contradictions of Madagascan society.
Initiated in 2017, Je viens de loin, j’écris en français events from Alliance française de Paris Île-de-France invite authors (writers, directors, comics writers…) coming from abroad and who chose the French language to express themselves.
Bernard Magnier explores his guests’ universe through their writing journey, their creation process, their relationship with the French language or their mother tongue, and their personal anecdotes. Journalist, publisher and renowned expert on francophone literatures, Bernard Magnier plans and hosts these events with finesse, sincerity and sagacity.
Since May 2020, and with the support of Institut Français and Fondation des Alliances Françaises, it is online that these events keep on introducing you to some of the greatest francophone authors. Free and open to all, they are the perfect opportunity for a worldwide audience to discuss with major figures of the francophone contemporary literature world.
This event is organised by Alliance Française de Paris with Alliance Française Antsirabe and Institut Français Maurice, with the support of Institut Français and Fondation des Alliances françaises.
